WBQ3 - Wargame Bloggers Quarterly - is published

The other piece of good new is that the third edition of Wargame Bloggers Quarterly is now available, free of charge.

You can pick up your issue HERE

And yes, the editor for this issue, the super-talented PK, very kindly has featured my "Operation Gericht" game from Partizan in the Park last June, with the photo from the Germans' flammenwerfer attack in the second game making the cover.

I was very grateful for this honour, and it came as a complete surprise when I found out.  As I mentioned before, all of the four Operation Gericht games we played last year, at both Partizan and Evesham, were great fun and huge thanks go again to everyone who took part in wonderful spirit.

I promise to get around to posting the backgrounds and scenarios to the "Operation Gericht" game here shortly.

As for Wargame Bloggers Quarterly, I've taken the reins as editor for the next issue, number 4.  The first three issues will be a very hard act to follow.

  1. Your work is definitely front cover material Sidney and with you at the helm as editor, the next issue should be a cracker.

    1. Thanks Pat. Much appreciated. It was a surprise to be on the cover. The photo was taken in the thick of the game, without fiddling or re-positioning the figures. If only I'd have known at the time, I'd have made the Germans line up more neatly !!! But there you go - true action photography!

  2. Seconded - a fine article and well-deserved cover article. I wondered for the merest moment if it was one of my snaps from the week after!

    1. Phil, thanks so much for dropping by !! When PK edited the blog article he used the photos from Partizan. May I say that the photos from the week after, at Evesham, which you took were much better than my efforts!

But rest assured, Sir, your photos have a starring role in the Verdun scenario guide I am putting together to be published here on the blog shortly ! Expect that large royalty cheque in the post any day... :)

  3. It's wonderful to watch how this project is maturing. Your article was quite beautifully written SR - I liked the bit about the old German vet who detested fire all the rest of his life. Sobering.

    1. Thanks Michael. One of the parts of the Verdun game I really enjoyed was asking the players to trace the story of the lives of their "Big Men" after the War ended. It's something which interests me a lot, thinking of my own family's reactions to the Great War. And that's something I'd like to return to in a future blog post .... (so stay tuned for that! )

  7. Hi Sidney,

Great article..very atmospheric, especially as most of my wife's family c1916, were sent to Verdun and didn't come back. Apparently, the Breton regiments were considered to be 'expendable', although I bet they gave as good as they got!

Anyway, as requested, here are some links to the 1/285th scale things I mentioned...

..I can do a 'how to' for one or the other if you think it would be of any use?

I, for one, can't wait for the next installment!

    Cheers
